Reading is CAUGHT rather than TAUGHT.

The parents and teachers who are enthusiastic about books will transfer that pleasure to young children.
When a child is familiar with these stories, encourage him or her to comment on the action on each page and to connect that with the words, so that word sound and familiarity develops with picture recognition. Above all, make the whole experience one of pleasure and love.
